Photographer Paul F. Gero has been telling stories professionally since 1983 when he joined the staff of The Chicago Tribune after graduating from Marquette University.
His work in Chicago and later in the paper's Washington, D.C. bureau won numerous awards from groups such as the Chicago Press Photographers Association, Illinois Press Photographer's Association and the White House News Photographers Association.
One of his images was nominated by The Tribune for the Pulitzer Prize in the Spot News category in 1984.
In 1990 he headed west and became a staff photographer for The Arizona Republic. He documented stories along the border and inside Mexico as well as documenting Charles Barkley and the Phoenix Suns, the Super Bowl and literally thousands of assignments throughout his career in journalism.
He also has freelanced for Sports Illustrated, Time, People, US News & World Report among other major publications.
His photograph of Arizona State University linebacker (and future Arizona Cardinal) Pat Tillman made on assignment for Sports Illustrated has been widely published and used in several television documentaries on Tillman and his heroic life.
He and his wife Nicki (who he met while documenting the wedding of a friend) relocated to Southern California in 2002.
And since then he was been documenting the personal wedding stories of his clients much like he would as an award winning photojournalist.
His wedding images have a beautiful sense of reality as he captures people in the moment and his portraits sessions are relaxed and fun.
