Congratulations on your engagement and your upcoming wedding. I would be honored to make your day memorable and as special as you have ever dreamed about. Over the years I have learned what works well and what doesn't - both to make a memorable wedding for you, your family and to honor Christ.
Ultimately, the wedding is not about the ceremony; it's about your marriage. Because of that, I ask the bride and groom to meet with me prior to the wedding. At this time, I will ask the couple to provide details about themselves, the wedding, a list of the names of their family and bridal party and their history together- how you met, your first date, and how he proposed. I want to know: "Why do you think God has chosen this person for you?"
After we get through the personal stuff, we will talk about the ceremony itself. I will ask the bride and groom about every detail, from whether you want to write your own vows to asking who will give the bride away. This helps remind you about little details couples often forget. We want the people attending the wedding to think, "Wow, this pastor has known this couple all their lives." I also want the wedding ceremony to be a celebration everyone will remember and talk about for years.
Also, with approval, I will ask the parents and attendees to stand and affirm their blessing of their marriage as well as ask the couple to make a public commitment to dedicate their lives together as one and to Christ. I like to have the bride and groom face each other and hold hands as soon as they get on the platform. This is their moment that God has made just for them. These are meaningful moments, both for the bride and groom and their guests.
As you continue to plan this very special day, my prayer is that you fulfill all of your dreams and have a blessed life together. I look forward to the opportunity to meet with you both.
May God Bless You and Those You Love,
Reverend Kurtis Hudspeth
