Border Grill Santa Monica is the vibrant setting where chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger present the bold foods and flavors of Mexico. Since opening in 1985, Border Grill has established a new standard for gourmet Mexican fare, and the chefs have become known, says New York Newsday, as Mexican food’s “pre-eminent American translators.”
While Border Grill Santa Monica is now the “original” model for the growing company, the restaurant moved to its current location in 1990 after five years as a taco stand on Melrose. Like its predecessor, City Cafe, Border Grill outgrew the tiny site as it grew in acclaim. The restaurant’s menu features authentic dishes Susan and Mary Sue learned in the homes and markets of Mexico, and still includes dishes from the first days on Melrose (Panuchos, Green Corn Tamales, and Marinated Skirt Steak). Wild and bright as a Modernist fiesta, Border Grill is a “stylishly funky, pleasantly raucous place,” says Travel & Leisure. It is designed by architect Josh Schweitzer and features the colorful murals of artists Su Huntley and Donna Muir.
With its dynamic atmosphere, great service, and lively menu guided by two accomplished, classically- trained chef- owners, Border Grill has achieved both critical acclaim and a passionate following.
Border Grill has received approximately 100 profile views in the last three months.
Border Grill is one of 1,046 wedding sites, locations and event venues in California and among 4,018 wedding sites, locations and event venues listed nationwide on GatheringGuide.com.
