Jake Blackshear rooted deeply in the traditions of the past with his eyes toward the future. Able to adapt to almost any musical situation.
Major influences include Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Lester Young, Dexter Gordon, Cannonball Adderly, Joe Henderson and Mark Turner. He is also interested in creating new concepts in improvisation and utilizing musics of other cultures. A professional since the age of sixteen, holds a master's degree in Jazz studies.
