Harpist Carol Tatum has been a full-time, professional wedding harpist for 15 years serving California from Santa Barbara to Palm Springs to San Diego as well as Arizona and Texas.
Carol has performed at many notable Southern California venues such as Greystone Mansion, La Venta, Descanso Gardens, The Regent Beverly Wilshire, Penninsula Hotel, Century City Hilton, etc. and has an in-depth knowledge of weddings and event planning.
Carol plays a custom made Hidden Valley Harp with gold leaves and vines on the wood and an "extended soundboard," which gives her harp a very warm, rich tone unlike the higher pitched, brittle tones of some harps.
Carol plays through a small amplifier (always provided for free) or owns a medium and a large P.A. system to accommodate larger weddings. Carol is a sound engineer. Many brides do not know this but without some sort of amplification, the naturally soft tone of the harp can get lost. Without an amplifier, you and your guests might not be able to hear the harp and if the harp cannot be heard, this is a waste of your money! Carol plays through an amplifier for every wedding. (Also, please be aware that some harpists do have amps but do not know how to run them and their harp tone ends up sounding thin and unattractive and could even result in piercing feedback!). (Note: The warm tone and volume of the harp comes from the WIDTH of the soundboard, not the HEIGHT of the harp and most people do not know that).
