The Academy, an outstanding example of Neoclassic architecture, is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was designed by renowned architect Philip Shutze and completed in 1941 as the home of the Medical Association of Atlanta, then the Fulton County Medical Society. The Academy, nearly 60 years old, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its beautiful composition and neoclassic architecture.
The Academy is now owned by Atlanta Medical Heritage, Inc., a nonprofit foundation, which has completely restored the building including conversion of its facilities for community use. A tribute to the Southern reputation of charm and elegance, the facility displays Doric columns, a marble portico and a beautiful rotunda accented by the famous Czechoslovakian chandelier used in the movie, "Gone with the Wind."
The spacious auditorium provides seating for 254 people plus a stage with theater lights ideal for ceremonies, seminars, musicals or speeches. Other rooms carry the sophistication of Waterford crystal chandeliers and antique furnishings. It is a perfect site for wedding receptions, banquets, parties, and corporate events.
Atlanta’s Academy of Medicine is available for weddings, receptions, corporate meetings, community lectures or seminars, concerts, and social gatherings for use year round.
