Built in 1928, The Calcasieu Marine National Bank is one of a group of buildings designed by the New Orleans architectural firm, Favrot and Livaudais, who, after a devastating fire in 1910, aided in rebuilding historic downtown Lake Charles.
The grand banking hall measures 36' x 110' and features twenty Corinthian pillars that highlight an eagle on each elevation. The original clock and bullet - proof glass still rest where the telephone switchboard operator once worked. Bronze sconces add subtle light, while magnificent chandeliers are suspended from a breathtaking ceiling. French windows of the director's room overlook the space.
The main vault's circular door is twenty - one inches thick. It weighs approximately twenty tons. The five ceiling fans in the space are original to the building.
