Generations of military personnel attended religious services in this quaint, Civil War-era, non-denominational chapel, which once again is favorite backdrop for weddings and other ceremonies.
Constructed as a one-story, gable-front chapel with a steeple, Building 45 was built in 1864 to serve as the post chapel. In the 1890s, approximately 15 officers and their families attended Protestant services here, and 100 or so soldiers attended Catholic services at another site. By the 1930s, the need for increased worship space resulted in the construction of Building 130 as the new Protestant chapel, and Building 45 was christened the "Chapel of our Lady" to host Catholic services.
Chapel of Our Lady at the Presidio has received approximately 172 profile views in the last three months.
