As a celebrant, I draw upon my love of writing poetry and prose, teaching, and consulting. I also draw upon zest, trust, and caring. To help inspire new unions and celebrate established ones, I glean value from my own: my husband and I have kept our relationship fresh and also maturing for over 35 years. I also help create naming ceremonies, blessing ways, and other special occasions.
I encourage memorable ceremonies that include personal elements, fresh ideas, and the richness of traditions. People seem to appreciate my balancing the solemnity of the occasion with light touches and even a bit of humor. We need to keep nourishing opportunities to bring together families and community.
The first time I thought of officiating a wedding, it was at the request of a dear friend; the first memorial service and naming ceremony that I guided were for those close to me. Since then, others have asked me to guide of their ceremonies.
The Universal Life Ministry offers accessibility to the role of "minister" with personal interpretation and integrity. I perform ceremonies for people of a wide range of backgrounds, beliefs, and styles, and I do honor same- gender relationships. I encourage the inclusion of whatever traditions and rituals are treasured by you and your family.
Composing the ceremony is important work. I will help explore what you have in mind, offer diverse options, create drafts from your choices, ask more questions, present revisions . . . until we have it just right for you.
