Lorna Willhelm and A Handful of Blues (formerly known as Maiden Voyage) has been one of Central Texas' most popular and sought after ensembles. The trio has refused to limit themselves to one style of music but the blues are always in the thread of every song.
Vocalist Lorna Willhelm has been described as one of the sultriest voices on the planet. Her vocals are flavored with a pinch of jazz, sass and just plain attitude. Lorna's cd, I Feel Good With the Blues, was named a Top 20 Release for 2000 by Salt Lake City's outstanding radio program Red, White & Blues. Lorna has been selected as Central Texas' Female Vocalist of the Year four times.
Guitarist Pat Kelly is the real deal. His guitar phrasings have prompted comparisons with Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Pat's acoustic prowess is reminiscent of Adrian Legg and Keb Mo.
He has performed with such notables as James Hand, D'Javaheads, Clusterfunk and The Shakin' Apostles. He is currently completing his Masters Degree at Baylor University where he also teaches.
As well as playing bass guitar for Maiden Voyage, Rex Willhelm's songwriting has earned positive reviews and his composition, Good Girl Feelin' Blue, was nationally recognized as a Best of the Blues for 2001.
The band has its own PA system and a reputation for making the customer happy.
