The Heitman House was built in 1908 by Gilmer Heitman, a very prominent businessman and friend of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone. The Gilmer Heitman House is one of only three surviving stately, early-twentieth century residences that once lined the Caloosahatchee riverfront near the city's beautiful downtown area. The house is a significant local example of Queen Anne style architecture and is one of the largest and most elaborate early 20th century residences in Fort Myers. With unparalleled views of the river and Florida sunsets; it is within walking distance to shops, restaurants, bars, marinas, museums, and galleries.
The Heitman House has received approximately 204 profile views in the last three months.

We genuinely loved using the Heitman House for our son's wedding! The venue is beautiful, and the staff is very friendly. We were allowed to bring in our own venders and alcohol, which was nice, and chose to work with the onsite coordinator Alexandra Drouhard. Definitely was much more budget friendly than we expected. Very happy!!

We had our daughter's wedding at the Heitman House last fall. This venue is truly a well-kept secret in Fort Myers. Everything exceeded our expectations. We worked with Alexandra Drouhard from the venue and the Global Marketplace for rentals, and were beyond pleased. Definitely recommend the Heitman House.

We had a very nice experience at the Heitman House. The grounds and house seem very well-kept, and the staff was nice. We worked with Alexandra Drouhard and liked her. She was nice and knowledgable. Our only suggestion would be to have more parking for personal vehicles, but other than that, we have no complaints.

We rented the Heitman House for our wedding based on the fact that we could cater the wedding ourselves. They offered us a discount “because it was slow season” and even threw in free tables and chairs to entice us without us even negotiating with them. We contracted and paid in full for a 3 day rental inclusive of tables and chairs. We were required to supply liquor hosting and liability insurance. We met with the manager, Alexandra three separate times to discuss the event including placement of catering equipment, bar and band. We were assured everything would be cleaned and operational. Three weeks before our event we found the house and grounds in serious disrepair. The siding and paint was falling off, kitchen equipment was inoperable, the roof was leaking, and there were bee nests and mold all over the porch. We contacted Alexandra whose reply was that there had been over 200 wedding with no complaints. A few days later she contacted us saying that we had misunderstood the contract; our contract was for the ceremony only (which is not true) and if we wanted to hold the reception also we had to pay another $1000 immediately to continue. We were very taken back at this statement and set a date to meet with her and the owner. Three days later and without the meeting, the owner, Jose Baserva informed us that our contract was canceled saying that we were too hard to deal with. In short, when we asked them to clean the place up, they decided to try and extort money from us right before our event. Since we did not pay the extortion fee immediately, we were thrown out. This left us with a breeched contract, thousands of dollars lost, and 2 weeks to acquire a new venue. Public searches revealed that the property was in foreclosure at the time. It also revealed that Mr. Baserva was running strip clubs throughout the state and that he was subject to many lawsuits. We also spoke to another couple (who can be contacted) that had a terrible experience there in 2010. These people stole our money. They cost us thousands more to re-plan and quickly move. They refuse to take any responsibility or even return our initial payment; much less the thousands more it cost us for our wedding. The owner’s response was that it was my fault since I called his partner telling her what was happening and asking her to correct the issue. He felt that he could keep our fees as damages and threatened to sue if we took any steps to ruin the business reputation.

If you are considering booking our facility please email us so we can better explain the nature of this fabricated posting by this individual. Dan Gorton's posting is false and inaccurate. He booked our facility for his wedding ceremony to be held on a Saturday. Mr. Gorton was not interested in hosting his wedding reception at The Heitman House and only paid for the ceremony. As a courtesy, for set up and decorating, our staff offered him and his bride access to the house on Thursday and Friday before the ceremony, this is something we always do for Saturday events. Mr. Gorton elected to take advantage of our gesture and took it upon himself to include the wedding reception without paying the additional rental fee, indicating that because he was renting the facility for 3 days he was entitled to use it all he wanted and for any use during this period. In 11 years holding events at The Heitman House, we have never rented the facility for longer than the day of the event. Mr. Gorton never paid for the reception when requested by our staff. It is obvious to us now that all Mr. Gorton wanted was to pay for the ceremony and get the rental time of the reception free of charge. He was offered the options of paying the difference which was only $1000 or cancel the event and a full refund would be issued, of course he demanded $5,000 instead of the $1,600 paid. In our eleven years in the wedding business, this is the only serious complaint that we have ever encountered. We are very happy we made the decision to separate from this individual regardless of the cyber attacks, personal insults, verbal abuse reported by our venders, and false accusations. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any concerns regarding this issue. Best Regards, Alexandra Drouhard The Heitman House.
