Marlene, vocalist, songwriter and pianist, leads The Marlene Jazz Ensemble -- a veteran musician who has performed for various audiences in the U.S. and abroad including Philippines' ex-Presidents Fidel Ramos and Cory Aquino and Princess Chulabhorn of Thailand. She most recently performed in a private function for Massachusetts governor, Deval Patrick, Mayor Menino and Massachusetts senators.
The Marlene Jazz Ensemble (also available as an instrumental group) has a varied repertoire ranging from elegant jazz (Ella Fitzgerald, Sinatra, Porter, Bill Evans, Parker) to more upbeat rhythm and blues (r&b), Latin tunes (Jobim, Sergio Mendes) and originals.
Marlene performs in solo and ensemble settings for weddings, corporate events, festivals and clubs, including Boston's hippest venue for live music, the Beehive.
Venues and events for Marlene and her ensemble include the Jazz in July series, Boston Arts Festival, Piers Park Festival, the famed Acton Jazz Cafe and Ryles Club, First Night in Worcester and Boston tv's "Fernando's Hideaway". She opened for legendary Cuban pianist, Omar Sosa at the 2008 Philippine International festival. Marlene has also performed in Peru and appeared on Peruvian tv.
Her second CD with Blue Earth Music, "Marlene LIVE With a Little Help From Her Friends" enjoys national and Canadian airplay and features New England's best, including Greg Hopkins (trumpet), who was a member of the Buddy Rich orchestra and has performed with legends, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Dizzie Gillespie and Stevie Wonder, among others.
