Being your celebrant stems out of gratitude for the goodness of people and the miracles that happen when we come together.
As a returned Peace Corps volunteer with a degree in Literature and a background in radio journalism and human interest stories, I have a passion for people, writing, and bringing groups together. "There are many ways to kneel and kiss the ground," wrote the Sufi poet Rumi.
Indeed, I feel so fortunate to be able to offer my services as a celebrant - - to reflect the ideals and interests of the couple and bring out the highest vibration of the group - - it's a hopeful, fun, holy, and important role.
Everywhere I go I look to see the ways in which people honor, give thanks, and pray. Over the last 20 years I have been collecting poetry, books, and quotes that I draw upon whenever I write in my journal, when I write letters, and when I write ceremonies. After a phone conversation and/or in-person meeting, I create a questionnaire tailored to the interests of the specific couple. Upon its completion, I then compose a highly unique ceremony inspired entirely from the answers.
Having grown up in a Christian household, I learned and joyously sang about God's unconditional love and now see that there are many paths, but one truth- that LOVE is God. If you are getting married, I look forward to getting to know you and bringing out the essence of your identity, the heart of who you as a couple are and what you bring to the world. Tapping in to what you have to say, I will write a ceremony that reflects and projects your infiniteness, so that your union will be divinely witnessed and blessed.
